It was refreshing to touch down in East London which is arguably home of the hipsters.  The alternative vibe and creativity is evident in East London and after spending time in India, the land of the hippies I started wondering if there was any similarity with hippies and hipsters.

The hippies stood for love and peace (some of them at least) so I went on the streets in East London to find out what a hipster is and what they stand for.

AM I HUNGRY?

It was a rainy afternoon 6 years ago when I visited a homeopathic doctor that told me I looked terrible on the inside. She told me I seriously needed to change my diet. That was my first wake up call of many in connection to food. After that I slowly started thinking more about what I ate but it took time and a lot of effort to change my unhealthy habits.

One of the best things I did in the beginning was reading and watching documentaries about health. But this also got me confused, there are so many ways out there, so what really is the best way?

Did we arrive 40 years too late in Arambol?

In the 60´s and 70´s the hippies found Arambol beach and settled down due to it´s isolation and stunning beauty. Arambol has changed a lot since then with growing popularity and commercialization, but still has it´s charm and attracts people from all over the world with an alternative lifestyle in mind. Artists, yogi´s, performers, designers, craftsmen and all kinds of people come here and live for up to 6 months every year, to work, chill and enjoy. Many of these seasonal residents in Arambol have been coming here for years, and it´s their home away from home. The word “hippie” has changed a lot since it first emerged but people still seem attracted to what the original hippie stood for. Is it because they tried to things differently?
